Acids and bases are both measured by the pH scale which stands for potential of hydrogen.

Properties:

Acid - sour, burning smell, sticky.
Reactions: often reacts with metals forming [tex] H_{2} [/tex]

Base - nitter, mostly doesn't have a smell, slippery.
Reactions: often reacts with oily things like oil or fat.

Hope it helped!
