John Milton's most famous work was Paradise Lost, an epic poem that imaginatively depicts the Biblical fall of Adam and Eve from God's grace. He believed that ultimately, poetry serves the religious purpose of giving glory to God and inspiring Christians to lead more enlightened lives.
