What is meant by terms like "lower born," "higher class," " commoner," and "gentleman

They are all terms that have some connotation to the wealth of the person. Lower born was typically used to refer to poor people, higher class to wealthy people, commoner to the middle class, and a gentleman referred to the level of Gentry just below an Esquire.
