Ok, so if you want to simplify, the first thing to do is look at the numbers or signs next to the left side of the parentheses. That sign is positive, so, it will be a positive one (if there are no numbers there it will always be a one, either negative or positive) Now, we multiply +1 by the 2 and the r in parentheses, getting 2 + r. Now, you add 2 + 20, getting 22. And you end up with r + 22.
