there are 1000 meters in 1 kilometer.

and there are 1.609 kilometers in 1 mile.

if there are 1.609 kilometers in 1 mile, then there are 1.609 * 1000 meters in 1 mile, or 1609 meters

[tex]\bf \cfrac{800~\underline{m}}{1}\cdot \cfrac{mile}{1609~\underline{m}}\implies \cfrac{800}{1609}~mile\implies 800\cdot \cfrac{1}{1609}~mile[/tex]
