You are given only one equation, but are to find the values of two variables (x and y).  No soap.

However, you could arbitrarily let x=1 and then find the corresponding y value.

Then 3(1) + y = 9, so y = 6.  One point on this line is (1,6).  But there are an infinite number of other solutions.
