The Pythagorean Theorem is

[tex]c^2=a^2+b^2[/tex]

where

c=hypotenuse=13

a=12

b=x

then we substitute the values

[tex]13^2=12^2+x^2[/tex]

then we isolate the x

[tex]\begin{gathered} x=\sqrt[]{13^2-12^2} \\ x=\sqrt[]{169-144} \\ x=\sqrt[]{25} \\ x=5 \end{gathered}[/tex]

The bottom of the ladder is 5m far from the bottom of the wall
