Divide 180 into two parts such that the larger is 16 more than three times the smaller. Pls help

x = the larger

y = the smaller

x+y = 180

x = 180 - y (eq 1)

x = 16 + 3y (eq 2)

substitution eq 1 to eq 2

[tex]\tt 180-y=16+3y\\\\164=4y\rightarrow y=41, then~x=180-41=139[/tex]
