In my opinion, Sakura wasn't useless. Yes in Naruto - she was just there for romance lol - but in Naruto Shippuden, I think she did a great deal to advance the plot, heal people, and fight really well. (one of the best and most intense fights was literally her and granny Chiyo defeating Sasori!)
