on May 23, 1956, Ernst Schmied became the third person to reach the peak of Mount Everest. He was accompanied by another Swiss man, Juerg Marmet. The following day, two more of the men in his expedition also made the journey.
Mount Everest is the world's highest mountain, with a peak at 8,848 metres (29,029 ft) above sea level. It is situated in the Himalayan range of Solukhumbu district (Province 1 in present days), Nepal.[
