Sometimes the rain forest are called the "lungs" of the earth. The millions and millions of trees in the rain forest takes in tremendous amount of carbon dioxide and produces much of the oxygen that you breathe today. So i would say the most important role of the rain forest is to provide oxygen for living creatures
