How does -7^2 get a different answer than (-7)^2 ?

Because on “-7^2” you multiply 7 by 7 because it is squared and you get 49. And because a minus and a plus sign merge to make a minus sign the answer is equivalent to “-49” and for “(-7)^2”. You do -7 times -7 and 2 negatives merge into a positive so the answer is “49”. And -49 and 49 are 2 completely opposite answers.
