The main reason for the implementation of the separation of powers is so that each individual grouping of government is able to keep on another in check. For example in the US we have the Legislative branch, the Executive branch, and the Judicial branch. Having separate branches prevents the government from becoming too powerful and making executive decisions without overlook.
