Washington, in response to the Whiskey Rebellion, led thousands of troops, (Which was much more than needed) to show that the government would not tolerate violent protest.
By 1794, the Whiskey Rebellion threatened the stability of the nascent U.S., forcing President Washington to personally lead the U.S. militia westward to halt the rebels.
