A cheetah is running 90 feet per second and is 120 feet behind its prey which is running 60 feet per minute. How long will it take the cheetah to catch up?

It will take 4 seconds for cheetah to catch up

Explanation:

Speed of cheetah= S1=90ft/s

Speed of the prey=S2=60ft/s

Distance between the cheetah and prey = d=120ft

Hence forming a linear equation,

Using the formula

Relative Speed= [tex]\frac{Distance}{time}[/tex]

Relative[tex]Speed\times time[/tex]= Distance

Therefore,

Suppose t is the time  

[tex](S1-S2)\times t= d[/tex]

Putting the values

(90-60)t=120

t=[tex]\frac{120}{30}[/tex]

t=4 seconds

Hence it will take 4 seconds for cheetah to catch up
