-31+(-4x) = -5+(-5)(1+5x)

-31-4x = -5+(-5)+(-25x)   : Adding a negative is the same as subtracting and I distributed the -5

-31 = -5 + -5 -21x    : added 4x to both sides

-31 = -10 -21x       : added -5 and -5

-21 = -21x           : added 10 to both sides

x=1   : divided both sides by -21, division of 2 negatives is a positive
