x = - [tex]\frac{8}{3}[/tex]

isolate - 6x by subtracting 9 from both sides

- 6x = 16 ( divide both sides by - 6 )

x = [tex]\frac{16}{-6}[/tex] = - [tex]\frac{8}{3}[/tex]

The aim is to isolate x on one side of the equation

-6x + 9 = 25

Subtract 9 from each side:-

-6x + 9 - 9 = 25 - 9

-6x + 0 = 16

Now divide both sides by -6:-

x = 16 / -6

x = -2 2/3   (answer)
