What was the most popular music of the war era? How did this new sound challenge racial taboos?

The answer was swing music.  It broke taboos because of its popularity among Black and White Americans alike.  It helped give both races something to agree on and enjoy.  Swing music was also popular in Germany until was cracked down by the Nazis.
