-6x+9=33 ???? What is the value of x ?

Well, the answer will definitely be negative because there is a minus sign.

-6x=24 - because I took away the 9 from both sides. (33-9=24)

9 is now gone, so now we do 24 divided by -6.

So this means x = -4.

In this case, you have to get -6x on one side, and the digits on the other. To eliminate the +9, you have to subtract it, as you always use the opposite operation. This then gives you -6x=24. You then have to divide 24 by 6, giving you -4. Therefore, x=-4
